The Weekender

I’m having one of those “is it Friday yet?” kind of weeks.  I usually try to break up my week with dinner plans and other fun extracurriculars, so most of the time I’m not living for the weekend; however, I’m just really itching for a few days off at the moment.

Naturally my mind is shifting to weekend plans and potential getaways.  Luckily I always keep a few travels essentials on hand, so that I’m always prepared for a spontaneous getaway. A bit of prepared spontaneity, I guess.

Here’s some of my absolute favorites for a weekend getaway:

1. The ultimate weekender bag. I LOVE this bag by Everlane – it’s basic, fashionable, and the perfect size! And the price is right at just $95. Available online

2. Favorite PJs by Eberjey. Cute. Comfy. Can’t live without them. I pack these for every trip — they are heaven. Available online for $97.

3. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I sleep with eye shades, but I do. It’s very Holly Golightly of me, I know. I actually freak out if I forget to pack my eye shades, so I’m considering buying a spare to keep in my weekender bag at all times. I found my favorite pair (pictured above) at Journelle in NYC, and they just came out with this new version, which I might have purchase – I love!

4. Moisture spray is essential for me.  I have very sensitive skin, and if I’m going to be spending several hours in a plane, train, or automobile, I like to make sure that my skin stays hydrated. I love the spring water spray by Eau Thermale Avène. This spray is soothing and great for sensitive skin — just a quick mist midway through your journey, and you’ll feel refreshed and ready for your trip! Avène spray is widely available at drugstores like Duane Reade and Wallgreens — at under $10, this is definitely one of my favorite drugstore buys.

5. Of course I never leave my house without my vitamins!  Travel essentials for me include: B12 for energy, C to ward off contagions, and biotin to keep my hair, skin and nails looking great.

Now I just have to decide where to go…only 3 more days until Friday!

Diana Vreeland | The Eye Has to Travel

Today happens to be international women’s day, a day meant to inspire change and remind women everywhere to never fear being extraordinary.  On this particular day I would like to pay homage to Diana Vreeland.

DV

Diana, known as the empress of fashion, was a true legend and her legacy continues to inspire. With no formal eduction, she managed to completely revolutionize the fashion industry as editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar and eventually Vogue. Her vision, creativity, attention to detail, drive, and overall joie de vivre were nothing short of enviable.

I hope you enjoy this selection of some of my favorite Diana quotes and images.  I would also absolutely recommend you to check out the documentary which honors her life: Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel.  Enjoy!

I always have some difficulty readjusting to work after a fabulous weekend. Especially this past weekend, when NY felt a slight reprieve from the harsh temperatures we’ve been experiencing lately. We saw a glimpse of springtime, but it was just a tease before yet another polar vortex (I still don’t technically know the definition of polar vortex, but I know it’s really bad).

But for a brief moment we felt spring in the air, and I loved every second! I was out and about all weekend: coffee on the high line, strolls through Chelsea Market, wine and cheeses at Aria, cocktails at Margaux, and a lovely birthday dinner for a friend at Alta. It was full and fabulous! And now I’m more excited than ever to put this winter behind us!

Out on the street people shed layers and braved bolder colors, leaving me extremely inspired and excited for spring fashion! Personally I tend to stick to a more neutral palette, as I feel the most chic and feminine while wearing soft, natural colors.

Since I’m feeling inspired (and cannot look at another hat or boot), here’s a peak at some of the styles I’m looking forward to this spring:

From top left:
1. Bobbi Brown Bare Pink Lipstick | I love the slight hint of pink in this lipstick, it has a very sweet and natural look | Sephora
2. Pigalle 120mm Nude Pumps | I just love the way nude pumps elongate legs | Christian Louboutin
3. Cashmere Cardigan in Pearl | I’m constantly pairing this with simple black dresses at work | J.Crew
4. Sand Tropez Polish | One of my favorites for a natural manicure | Essie
5. Lightweight & Lacy Blouses | A go-to for me throughout spring and summer | Zara
